Foreign Direct Investment
Morial Shah is a legal academic, policy consultant and legislative drafter. As part of Politas's team, Morial works on matters related to Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). She also teaches Corporate and Business Law as a member of the Law Faculty at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Karachi, Pakistan.
Morial's public sector work involves legislative drafting, corporate sustainability issues and human rights' advocacy. Most recently, she worked supervised at the UN Global Compact in New York, served as the country expert for a U.S. asylum court, trained clerks of Pakistan's Senate on legislative drafting, worked with Pakistani lawmakers on human rights' legislation and consulted for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
As part of her volunteering activities, Morial volunteers for the Husn Afroze Trust on girls' education and Peoples Primary Health Initiative (PPHI) a public-private healthcare initiative providing access to basic health services in rural Pakistan. Over the last decade, Morial has also volunteered for the Indus Resource Centre (IRC) - an organization running schools for underprivileged girls in rural Sindh, Pakistan.
In the past, Morial has served on the Youth Board of the American Fund for Human Development (AFHD) and volunteered for UNICEF-Sindh, UNFPA-Pakistan, Pakistan National Forum on Women’s Health, Women’s Parliamentary Caucus of Pakistan, Sustainable Policy Development Institute (SDPI) and Pakistan's National Commission on Human Development (NCHD).
Morial is a graduate of Columbia Law School (Stone Scholar), University of Cambridge, UK, and Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service (summa cum laude). Her op-eds appear in major Pakistani newspapers including the Dawn, Express Tribune and The News. When in Pakistan, she is invited to speak about legal and political matters on regional and national TV channels.
