Rewarding Rehabilitative Outcomes

A Proposal for Reorienting the Corrections System Towards Rehabilitation and Restorative Justice

Politas has been working with prison reform groups and alternatives-to-incarceration providers to develop a concept and pilot project that could transform the corrections system. The project would realign the incentives of the prison system by equipping NGOs to take responsibility for detainees and paying the NGOs based on how successful they are at rehabilitating persons in their care. The project should give life to underfunded restorative justice initiatives and greatly reduce overall costs to government and society.
